1st Lt Herbert Edman
Official Documents

These five documents were issued in 1945 and 1946.

The first is a Battle Casualty Report and Lt Edman's status is MIA.
A letter was sent to his mother on 1 Feb 1945.

Next is the document titled
Finding of Death of Missing Person.

There is no date but this would have been issued
One Year and One Day after his status of Missing in Action,
28 January 1946.

Two Battle Casualty Reports follow.

Both state his status as Killed in Action.

The second expands the first with additional information that
Lt Edman was at the Tokyo Military Prison in March 1945.

The final document is titled Report of Death dated 4 September 1946.

30 March 2023

As of this date,
there are reasonable assumptions that Lt Edman
was in the Tokyo Military Prison on the night of 25-26 May 1945.

The fire bombing mission that night caused the prison to catch on fire.
25 of the 62 men who died in the fire were identified.

Identification of the remains of the 37 men who died in
that fire are underway at the DPAA facility at Hickam AFB.

At this time their status is KIA - RNR
Killed in Action - Remains Not Recoverable
