Below are two documents that fall into the category of Official Documents.
The first is the Battle Casualty Report issued on 5 April 1945.
Lt Gerhardt's mother, Mrs Bessie Gerhardt,
was notified on 26 April 1945 that her son was Missing in Action.
Below this document is the Report of Death issued 28 March 1946.
This date is one month after the remains were recovered from
the mass burial site at the Tokyo Military Prison.
The statement :
" evidence of death " most likely refers to his dog tags
being recovered.
The newspaper clipping at the bottom of the page is dated 21 April
1946.
This indicates that there may have been a document titled
Finding of Death
that is not included within Lt Gerhardt's IDPF.
