The first document is one of three Battle Casualty Reports.
Sgt Paternak's status is listed as Missing in Action.

This is dated 26 April 1945 with Date of Death 2 April 1945.
In following documents this is corrected to 26 May 1945.

The Finding of Death was issued 3 April 1946,
one year and one day following loss of the B-29 that Sgt Pasternak was on.
At this time he had yet to be identified.

In some of these documents Public Law 490 is mentioned.
More information is avaiable at the
Public Law 490 Page

The second Battle Casualty Report, dated 17 June 1946,
changes his status to Killed in Action, Saipan.

The final Battle Casualty Report has Sgt Pasternak Killed in Action, Japan.
There is also the notation:

The two Reports of Death were issued before Sgt Pasternak was officially identified in April 1949.
