On 27 August 1943 Sgt Welsh was ordered to report to
Fort Custer, Michigan, by 17 September 1943 with the Enlisted Reserve Corps.

He was there until 4 October 1943 and transferred to
Jefferson Barracks, Missouri for basic training.

He attended the Gunnery School at Kingman AAF, Arizona,
from 31 December 1943 through 10 April 1944.

After graduating in April 1944, his first stop was at Lincoln AAF
where he was most likely waiting for assignment to a crew.

This took place at the end of April when he travelled to Salina, Kansas
and Smoky Hills Army Air Field where the 499th Bomb Group was training.

At an unknown date he became a part of the Will Latimer Crew as Right Gunner.

Additional information is in the

section

The final entry is November 1944 when he departed the
Continental United States for Saipan.
