The Battle Casualty Report was issued 3 May 1945 and a
telegram was sent to Mrs Ella Welsh sometime in May.

On 9 April 1946 a Report of Death was issued and states that
Sgt Welsh was Killed in Action while a Prisoner of War.

Of interest is that while Sgt Welsh was initially identified in March 1946,
formal identification did not take place until 1949.

Compounding the mystery is the letter that Mrs Welsh received from
Major Coombs of the Memorial Division in March 1948.

She was told that no information concerning her
son's recovery has been received.
