My initial thought with the two Enlistment Records below was that
they were duplicates.
This proved to be incorrect.
At the time of SSgt Alfred J McNamara's enlistment into the Enlisted
Reserve Corps (ERC) he had just started his freshman year at Creighton
University, Omaha, Nebraska.
This took place on 27 November 1942 and his entry into the US Army
was deferred until 1946 to allow him to complete his college studies.
His physical took place at Fort Crook, Nebraska, now the site of Offutt
Air Force Base.
In February 1943 he was called to Active Duty and in his Station
List
( at the bottom of this page ) his first assignment was to the
342nd CTD at Washington University, St Louis.
His physical took place at Jefferson Barracks, St Louis.
This sudden change from deferred until 1946 to active duty is best
explained
in the PDF from Beloit College.
