OVERVIEW
Documents within these four pages come from
SSgt Augunas IDPF, Case History 328, and Yokohama Trial T- 123.
SSgt Augunas and Lt Nelson survived the 17 March 1945 crash near Mt
Futatabi
located a few miles north of Kobe.
Very close by was a POW Camp with civilians and
military from American, British, Dutch, and Australia.
Following their capture they were taken to Osaka Castle or Kempei
Tai HQ.
The date(s) are unknown
Their second burial was at the Sanadayama Military Cemetery, Osaka,
but they were not executed there.
Their trial took place in Osaka from ~1000 - 1200 18 July 1945.
At 1300 the execution order was issued.
Around 1430 they were transferred from
Osaka to the Yokoyama Military Parade Grounds.
Their execution took place at 1600 18 July 1945.
Graves had been dug during the morning while the trial was in progress.
Lt Nelson and SSgt Augunas were buried there.
On 23 August 1945 their remains were exhumed,
cremated and placed into two wooden boxes.
These were transported to
Sanadayama Military Cemetery, Osaka, for burial in an isolated location.
Disinterment for Identification took place on 26 February 1946 and
identification was based on their name plates on the boxes.
In the below Report of Recovery is
the statement that Lt Murray Gray, Legal Section SCAP,
" located and reported the location of this isolated
burial site. "
Witnesses were Capt Orio Ogiya and Lt Jisai Minami

One of the defendants in this trial was Capt Orio Ogiya.
He was the Prosecutor at the trials and
also supervised and directed the killings.
Another name in the Review is Lt Jisai Minami.
He was a medical officer but was not a defendant.
