27 January 1945
Page 1

The complete 73rd Bomb Wing Mission #22 Report contains 278 pages.
A few of those appear within this section.

The assigned target (357) for this mission was the
Musashino Aircraft Plant in the Tokyo area.
Target 357 was a difficult one to destroy,
with typically minimal damage to the aircraft plant and losses of many B-29s.

Due to weather conditions, none of the 55 or 56 B-29s
from the 73rd BW bombed this target.

Another major factor in this mission was the
number of attacks by enemy aircraft.
The 73rd Bomb Wing lost five B-29s and their crews.

One of these was A Square 28,
497th Bomb Group, Capt Elmer Hahn crew.

Below the cover page is the 497th Mission Blackboard
updated throughout the mission by 73rd BW Mission Control.

At the bottom is a summary table showing that
3 B-29s of the 497th were lost to E/A ( Enemy Aircraft )

This is followed by Table I, Participating Aircraft,
with data for the Wing and each of the four Bomb Groups.

Next is a report from the 497th Bomb Group titled Bombing Data in narrative format.
This page begins with Conditions Over Target.

The last two documents are navigation maps.

The first one concerns flying to the coast of Japan,
turning towards the IP ( Initial Point ) at Kofu and
then turning towards the target
for the bombing run

The larger map shows the track from Saipan to Japan and back.
