One key document missing in TSgt Alvin Hart's IDPF is his Record of Custodial Transfer. This summary provides dates and locations of when his remains were transferred to a US Army Transport from the United States Armed Forces Yokohama Mausoleum#2.

From the below documents you will note that his remains were removed from Yokohama Cemetery #1 and reinterred at Yokohama Mausoleum #2 in April 1948. Based upon records in other IDPFs, he most likely would have been transferred to the American Grave Registration Service facility in Yokohama late 1948 or early 1949.

Many of the documents in this section are to Mrs Carol M Hart ( wife ) and to Mrs Ethel Hart ( mother ), during 1948. Carol Hart had remarried in July 1946 but apparently never received any correspondence from the Quartermaster General concerning the discovery of TSgt Hart's remains until sometime in 1948.

Carol M Hart relinquished her rights to determine his Disposition in June 1948 and from that point forward all decisions were made by Mrs Ethel Hart. She requested that his remains be returned to the United States and be buried in Vallhalla Memorial Cemetery in Burbank, California.

Mrs Ethel Hart did receive notification that his remains had arrived at the San Francisco Port Of Embarkation ( Fort Mason ) on 15 February 1949. At this time she was notified that it could take several weeks before his remains were transported to Burbank.

This was followed by correspondence indicating that his casket had been transferred to Oakland Army Base Distribution Center #13 on 31 March 1949.

TSgt Alvin Relvue Hart is buried in Valhalla Memorial Cemetery in Burbank. Considerable additional information is at his Find A Grave page set up by Scott Muselin at the
Osaka Virtual Cemetery.
