Case History 111

INTRODUCTION

Within these pages only a small amount of the material in the
Law Crew and Case History 111 sections is used here.

Sgt Maurice Myers was born in New Wales, Pennsylvania, and grew up
in four or five different towns in Montgomery County.

They are close together, about ten miles from each other,
and 20-30 miles north of Philadelphia.

He was the third of seven children in the Stanley and Iris Myers family.
They moved around a lot between his birth in 1926
and his entering the USAAF in early 1944

His Enlistment Record from the National Archives is below
and states his date of enlistment as 17 January 1944.
There is no information, other than dental records in his IDPF,
indicating where he was stationed.

These two are Laredo AAF and Pyote AAF, both located in Texas.

Sgt Myers was a member of the 1st Lt Edward G Law Crew
and more information about the crew is in
the Law Crew noted at the top of this page.

Their B-29 was shot down on 1 April 1945, with Lt Law unable to escape the aircraft.
Ten men survived and all were taken to the Tokyo Kempei Tai Headquarters.
Around 10 May 1945 nine of them were transferred to the
Tokyo Military Prison and died in the fire of 25-26 May 1945.

The one man not transferred, Sgt Ray Hopper,
survived the war as he was transferred to the Omori POW camp.
Some of his statements will appear within this tribute to Sgt Myers.

Immediately below is a Law Crew photo most likely taken on Saipan.
The names of some men in the original photo were not
properly associated with the correct person.
This was corrected in 2020 based upon the
Crew Photo taken at Pyote AAF in January 1945.

Following his enlistment record is a form titled
Inscription Data for Headstone.
This was filled out by his father and indicates that
a Latin Cross is to be placed on the grave marker.

The final document on this page is an index file from the National Jewish Welfare Board
