USS Oklahoma Memorial
|
The USS Oklahoma Memorial is a short distance away from the USS Missouri on Ford Island. The Memorial is designed in the shape of the bow of a ship and behind the granite walls are 429 Memorial Markers for each of the men who died 7 December 1941. Since this Memorial was dedicated on 7 December 2007 the remains many of these men have been identified by the DPAA and have been buried across the United States. Each marker is about 6 feet tall and the closeup that I have taken of Lt (jg) Aloysius Schmitt is to honor this man who was Chaplain on board the Oklahoma. The ceremony awarding him the Silver Star can been viewed at: The statue of Fleet Admiral Chester W
