Sgt Lawrence W Beecroft
SSgt George E Wright is in this section as a result of initial confusion correctly identifying Sgt Lawrence W Beecroft. This situation took place between April and June 1946. The first of the two Missing Air Crew Reports (MACR) is 11221 from the Capt Leonard Cox ditching 14 January 1945. The second Report 14593 concerns the 1st Lt Franklin Crowe crash on 1 June 1945. Sgt Beecroft's name appears in both MACRs while SSgt Wright is in 11221 The confusion in correctly identifying Sgt Beecroft came about because of two different laundry marks on his clothing. There was a total of six marks: four with W3673 ( SSgt Wright) and two with B9387. This was subsequently corrected to Sgt Beecroft's correct serial number ending in 9587 and led to his being identified. Page 2 contains 8 documents that should help to understand how Sgt Lawrence W Beecroft was correctly identified. |
