In the first sentence, this Trial is noted as being ' joint and common
' .
Listed are names of 27 accused.
Personal Data for each begins at the bottom of the page.
Within the Charges and Specifications section, Sgt Russell W Strong's
name
appears frequently with the date of his
execution by poisoning stated as around 30 July or 31 July, 1945.
There is a section of this Review that concerns Evidence by the Prosecution.
This is quite convoluted, going back and forth with multiple defendants.
With a few execeptions, I have not been able to link
much of this directly to Sgt Russell W Strong.
At least five of the POWs were poisoned at the
Central District Kempei Tai Headquarters in Osaka.
Only Sgt Strong's and Lt Prices' names are stated.
The others are Unidentified.
There were either two or three dates of poisoning.
All the men were transported by truck to the Sanadayama Military Cemetery.
Both in these pages and in the Recovery and Identification they
were buried in two separate separate graves, four men in each grave.
Some reports state that these men were executed at
the Sanadayama Military Cemetery.
Based on information in this Review,
this is incorrect.
Editorial comment:
Within documents in Sgt Strong's IDPF and in Case History 328,
his date of death is stated as 15 August 1945.
What puzzles me is that the evidence presented at this Trial
was gathered by people within the
Office of the Supreme Commander Allied Powers.
There must have been definite reasons for using the dates of
' around July 30 or 31 '.
