The first document is the Battle Casualty Report issued on 3 May
1945.
A telegram was sent to Mrs Delphine Sutherland on 7 May 1945.
The Report of Death was issued 30 March 1946.
While this document would not have been sent to Mrs Sutherland,
she would have received a letter concerning this situation.
Sgt Sutherland's status was changed from
Missing in Action to Killed in Action.
In the lower part of the page is an explanation for his change in
status.
" Terminated on 23 March 1946 when evidence considered
sufficient to establish fact of death on 26 May 1945."
Recovery of remains at the Tokyo Military Prison began in February
1946.
Sgt Sutherland's name appears in an undated list with
the names of 46 POWs who have been there.
This information is based on finding dog tags and from Japanese informants.
