Sgt Walk's remains were recovered at the
Koishikawa Military Cemetery, Tokyo area, between 10-14 March 1946.
His
Identification in the Field
took place during this time.
_______________________
At some point the Graves Registration section of the
Office of the Quartermaster General realized that errors had been
made
in some of these Field Identifications.
An example was using laundry marks on Sgt Walk's clothing
as the sole means of identification.

In early 1949 , his remains were identified
at the Central Identification Point at Yokohama.

These clippings were based on information available at the time that
Sgt Walk's
Report of Death
was issued in April 1946.
While this turned out to be correct,
Sgt Walk was not formally identified until 14 April 1949.
