Determining the precise cause of SSgt Wells' death has been elusive.

The Roster of Pacific POWs at the Mansell web site states death by execution.
( see below )

His recovery is straight forward, taking place on 29 March 1946.

The recovery location in reports is at the Chiba City Cemetery.

However, at this point in time,
the precise location of this recovery location is uncertain.

His remains were transported to
United States Armed Forces ( USAF ) Cemetery Yokohama #1
and re-designated as X- 369.
