Updated 30 January 2024

Michael Krehl pointed out information in the below

statement by Sgt John M Birchett that

I did not pay close enough attention to.

Sgt Birchett provides the most accurate information in all these pages
concerning where the Samuelson Crew's B-29 was rammed.

This was not in the area of the
Secondary Target, the Tokyo Dock Area.

Sgt Birchett writes :

" we were just beginning the bomb run "

The second map beneath the Statement has the locations of the
Initial Point at Kofu, Mount Fuji, Tokyo, and the Tokyo Dock Area.

Circled in red is my estimate of where their B-29 crashed.

These three maps serve as an orientation to accompany documents in other sections.

The first shows the path from the Initial Point (IP ) at
Kofu to the secondary target at the Tokyo Dock Area.

The IP is where the bomb run began.

The distance from Kofu to the Primary Target
at Musashino was ~ 50 nautical miles.

The course from Kofu was 85 degrees TRUE.

The course to the secondary target was 88-89 degrees TRUE and
the distance around 55 nautical miles.

The distance from the Secondary Target to
the area of Uenohara was ~30-35 nautical miles.

Some of the documents in Sgt Janecek's IDPF place the
location where the B-29 crashed and remains
recovered to be in Yamanashi Prefecture.

[ see second map ]

The third map covers that part of Tokyo where Sgt Janecek
was taken following his capture.

He spent roughly three weeks in the Eastern District Kempei Tai Headquarters.

His death took place at the Tokyo First Temporary Military Hosptial.

Burial was at the Koishikawa Military Cemetery.
