1st Lt Louis Lehnen's journey home began in mid August 1948 when his remains were transferred from USAF Cemetery Yokohama #1 to the American Graves Registration Service port facility at Yokohama.

His remains were placed aboard the USAT Dalton Victory on 29 September 1948
and arrived at Fort Mason, San Francisco, on 5 December 1948.

Following transfer by rail ferry to the Oakland Army Base , his remains were transported by rail to the Chicago Distribution Center, arriving 13 December 1948.

The final part of his journey took place on 13 January 1949
when his remains arrived in Lafayette, Indiana.
