The First Wave had four types of aircraft : torpedo bombers, dive
bombers, horizontal bombers, and fighters.
Below are attack maps of the First and Second Waves.
North West of Pearl Harbor the 40 Torpedo planes split into two groups.
One group of 24 aircraft looped around Hickam Field to attack Battle
Ship Row from the East.
The 16 in the second group were to attack the western side of Ford
Island.
This is where two of the three carriers usually were berthed.
As there were no carriers, secondary targets were attacked.
The MAILGRAM notes torpedo planes in three sections.
How many aircraft in each section is not stated.
A typical formation was two planes with the leader and his wingman.
At least five torpedo planes aimed for what they thought would be
the battleship Pennsylvania normally berthed at the 1010 Dock.
Five torpedoes were dropped and one hit the Helena.
Below the two Attack Maps is one page from a nine page
article written by David Aiken in 1991.
Most of this page concerns the Helena.

Following the article are two photos from the
Naval History and Heritage Command showing damage to the 1010 Dock.
A substation was on this part of the Dock and one of the photos has
a sign
CABLE CROSSING
DO NOT ANCHOR
Would a bomb would cause
more damage than what appears in the photos ?
The dock appears to have collapsed at the edge next to the water.

Part of the Mooring and Berthing diagram is in Page 2.
On either side of B2 at the 1010 Dock is a Cable Crossing.
Next to one is a 12 inch water line running from the Dock to Ford
Island.
Was this water line damaged by the Bomb / Torpedo explosion ?

Within the first sentence of the MAILGRAM are the
words
THREE GENERAL PHASE PERIODS
THIRD PHASE 1105 TO 1115
The aircraft shot at during the Third Phase
were P-40s and P-36s from Wheeler Field.
