1983

These letters from 1983 provide examples of the confusion that the families may have had.

Within the IDPFs of the 37 men who perished and were not
identified in the Tokyo Military Prison fire
there is no mention of what took place following
their remains being buried in USAF Cemetery Yokohama.

The family member saw Lt Edman's name in
the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific
and thought that Lt Edman's remains were buried there.

Michael Krehl has done extensive work in both
acquiring documents at various NARA facilities
as well as spearheading the effort to have these 37 men identified.

At some unknown time, most likely in late 1940s or early 1950s,
these men's remains were transported to
what is now known as the Manila American Cemetery.

Michael was able to locate interment cards for
each of the Unknowns and their burial location.

In April 2022 , thanks to Michael's efforts,
these mens remains were disinterred and
transported to the DPAA facility at Hickam AFB.
