The 1st Lt Joe McSpadden Crew

The photo of the McSpadden Crew is from a book titled Under this photo are the pages of SSgt Flanagan's Registration
card This was a replacement crew, training first at Clovis AAF, New Mexico, from September 1944 through February 1945. They then transferred to Kearney AAF, Nebraska, in February to await orders to begin the journey to Saipan. Their arrival on Saipan is documented in the 871st Bomb Squadron Morning Report dated 15 March 1945. They would have arrived most likely on 7 March 1945. Documents in Page 2 consist of three pages from Missing Air Crew Report 14365. You will see changes in the crew's status from MIA to Killed in Action as the report is updated. The date of those who died in the crash is 5 May 1945 while that of the four who were executed as POWs is stated as 15 August 1945. It is possible that this 15 August 1945 date is an administrative decision rather than the actual date of death. More on this can be found in the section for 2nd Lt Harry Foley The final documents on Page 2 are from POW Research Network Japan and contain information based upon Japanese sources. |
