Miyakonojo Air Field

Kyushu
Page 2

Around the end of December 1944,
73rd Bomb Wing Control was established as a centralized location for
all information from Bomb Groups participating in a mission.

Each Group had its own Blackboard that was updated throughout the mission.

The 498th's Call Sign ( Victor Number ) was V607.
In reports you will see T Square 4 ( T-4 ) designated as 4V607.

Two of the 498th Squadrons, 873rd and 875th, took part in this mission.

At the left side of the blackboard is a column for Tail Number.
In the middle is the name of the Aircraft Commander and
the far right Remarks column has various types of information.

A name in this column would most likely be that of a Group Staff Officer.

Remarks for 4V607 :

11 PARACHUTES AND THE LOCATION

Beneath the Blackboard are three pages from the Bombardier report.

The first one is titled Bombing Data.
Each Squadron released bombs at the
same time and altitude. Underlined is T4 -4611.

The next page of the report has the formation diagram
with T-4's position highlighted with a blue rectangle.

The last page of the Bombardier Report is a narrative of the mission
and any problems encountered by a B-29.

Noted with a large blue asterisk are T-4 and T-12 lost on this mission.
