Most of the documents in the three pages of
Recovery and Identification are from Case History 328.

The complete files are at the Case History 328 page at
the 73rd Bomb Wing POW Honor Roll web site.

As you read through these pages you will note that
most dates of recovery are between 29 March and 24 April 1946.

A closer look at the below document titled
Report of Disinterment for Identification indicates
that Lt Nelson was recovered on 26 February 1946.

His trial took place at Osaka Castle and his burial site is
within the Sanadayama Military Cemetery.

Complete details of his trial, execution, and burial are in the Yokoyama section.

Both Lt Nelson's and SSgt Augunas' trial took place the morning of
18 July 1945 at Osaka Castle.

In the early afternoon they were transported to an isolated area
in Yokoyama and executed. Their bodies were buried that day at that location.

About a month later, on 23 or 24 August 1945,
their bodies were disinterred and cremated at the burial site.

Cremated remains were then transported to
Sanadayama Military Cemetery and buried in an isolated spot.
