The three documents on this page concern disinterment of Sgt Olson's
remains
at Yokohama Cemetery #1 and the Record of Custodial Transfer.
His exhumation is dated 11 October 1948 while
the Disinterment Directive is dated 15 January 1949.
It appears that his casket was transferred from Yokohama Cemetery
#1 to
the American Graves Registration Service (AGRS ) Port Facility at
Yokohama on 15 January 1945
His remains departed Yokohama on 28 January 1949
on USAT Lt Raymond O Beaudoin, arriving at
the San Francisco Port of Embarkation ( Fort Mason ) on 10 February
1949.
From there is casket was transported to Distribution Center 13, Oakland
Army Base.
In the midst of this organized transfer of remains
from Japan to the United States,
the confusion mentioned in the first page was taking place.
