The below Disinterment Directive is dated 15 July 1949 although Sgt Pasternak was disinterred from
United States Armed Forces (USAF) Yokohama Cemetery on #1 on 1 February 1949.

His remains were then transported to the American Grave Registration Service ( AGRS )
Port Facility at Yokohama on 8 February 1949.

His casket remained there until 22 August 1949 when it was loaded
from the dock on to USAT Cardinal O'Connell.

The Cardinal O' Connell arrived at Fort Mason on 12 September 1949 and
his casket was transported across the Bay to the Oakland Army Base.

From there his journey home by rail began, arriving at
the New York Port of Embarkation on 19 September 1949.

Below the Record of Custodial Transfer is correspondence to Mr Joseph Pasternak
confirming delivery instructions to the funeral home in Chicopee, Massachusetts.

On 29 Sep 1949 Sgt Pasternak's remains were transported by
rail from Distribution Center #1, Brooklyn, New York, to Springfield, Massachusetts.

He was escorted by SSgt William J Walence.

Burial took place at

St Stanislaus Cemetery, Chicopee, Massachusetts
