One of the functions of the Office of the Quartermaster General ( OQMG )
was the American Graves Registration Service ( AGRS ).

The AGRS was involved from Recovery of Remains through Burial.

Following Sgt Pettersen's recovery from the
Tokyo Military Prison on 14 February 1946,
it took until 1949 for his remains to be formally identified.

Below are three pages from the document

Identification Data dated 17 December 1947.
Sgt Pettersen's status is Unknown X-195.

In Page 3 is a diagram of which of his remains were recovered.

At an unknown date Sgt Pettersen's remains were
transported to the Identification Laboratory at Manila.
At the bottom are the words AGRS - FEZ, APO 707 (Manila)

A map of the Far Eastern Zone of the American Graves Registration Service is in Page 4.

Sgt Pettersen was identified from both Army and Civilian dental records.
