The documents in this page are arranged in chronlogical order,
beginning on 10 October 1949 and concluding on 2 February 1950.

Sgt Pettersen's remains were recovered on 16 February 1946 as Unknown X-195.
Formal identification did not take place until 30 September 1949.

During this time his remains had been at the
United States Armed Forces ( USAF ) Cemetery #1, Yokohama,
and for a short period, at the Manila American Cemetery.

On 7 February 1949 his remains were transferred from
Cemetery #1 to the American Graves Registration Service ( AGRS ) Port Facility at Yokohama.
Note that the date of the first document is 15 October 1949

Outlined in white is where he will be buried: Code 2321, Long Island National Cemetery.

On 5 December 1949 his remains were placed on board the USAT Patrick and
transported across the Pacific Ocean to Fort Mason, San Francisco, arriving 16 December 1949.

The next step of the journey was by rail from Fort Mason to Distribution Center #1 at New York.
This took place from 12 - 17 January 1950. His escort was SSgt Leonard M Davis, USAF.

The Receipt of Remains is dated 2 February 1950.
His interment in the Long Island National Cemetery took place this same day.
