The first Battle Casualty Report ( BCR ) for anyone
Missing in Action
includes the notation that a letter or telegram
has been sent to the Next of Kin.

These do not appear in most of THE 55's IDPFs.

The letter that was sent to Lt Sisson's father is below.

*****************

Lt Paul Sisson's remains were recovered on 1 April 1946
at the Jonan Rifle Range, Osaka Castle.
At that time he was identified as Unknown X-9.

His formal identification was not approved until October 1948.

By April 1947 it appears that there was sufficient evidence to
establish his prelimnary identification.

In this section are four letters addressed to Mr Edgar Sisson.
These provide additional information concerning the

The first BCR is from 25 July 1945,
one month after the Newell Crew was reported to be Missing in Action.
The telegram was sent to Mr Sisson on 26 July 1945.

This is followed by two letters.

The first, dated 8 July 1945, is from Lt Sisson's unit, the 877th Bomb Squadron.

On 27 July 1945 is a second letter from
Major General Edward Witsell related to the above mentioned telegram.

At the bottom of the page are two BCRs dated 10 and 20 May 1946.
Lt Sisson's status was changed from Missing in Action to
Killed in Action 26 June 1945.

The letter from Major General Witsell states this same date.
