The B-29 flown by Lt Joe McSpadden as Aircraft Commander was shot down ~ 50 miles south east of Osaka on 5 May 1945.
SSgt Logan Sparks was one of the four survivors who were captured in the vicinity of the crash site.

They were taken to Osaka Kempei Tai Headquarters located close to Osaka Castle.

The date of execution within Sgt Sparks' IDPF varies from 20 July through 15 August 1945.

Fourteen men were transported from Osaka to the Shinodayama Military Maneuver Area by truck.
Thanks to work by Rolland Swank, maps in these pages show the location where the executions took place.

Recovery of Sgt Spark's remains took place between 16 and 18 April 1946.
The sketch shows the burial site between two lakes.

The Google map is provided to assist in orientation.

This is followed by small versions of a US Army map and an aerial photo taken in 1985.
