Below are two Battle Casualty Reports ( BCR ) and two Reports of Death.
The documents were issued in February and April 1947.

Each BCR states that Sgt Sparks was Killed in Action as a result of Execution.
Date of death in the first one is blank and the second has 15 August 1945.

In the first Report of Death the date of death is stated as Unknown.
This is corrected to 15 August 1945 in the second.

Implied, but not specifically stated, is that SSgt Sparks was

Executed while a POW of the Japanese Government
