The Coming Home pages for these men is generally straight forward.
The family receives a letter from the Quartermaster General
requesting that a form be filled out.

This is followed by the remains being transported by sea to
a Port of Embarkation.
From there the remains are transported by rail to
the final destination.

Sgt Warren Leonard Olson's Coming Home pages are not typical.

In between these you will encounter considerable confusion.
The reading is not easy as you may have to go slow and keep track of dates.

Sgt Olson's father, Oscar Carl Olson, played a part in the situation documented here.
I leave it to the reader to make his or her own conclusions.

Below are two letters followed by the form titled
Request for Disposition of Remains

The first letter is dated 8 October 1948 and
is addressed to Mr Oscar Olson, Deer Park, Washington.
This letter written by Major James F Smith
contains a brief statement concerning Sgt Olson's remains.

The second letter is dated 12 October 1948
and was sent to Mr Olson at the Deer Park address.
This letter is from Major General Thomas B Larkin,
The Quartermaster General.
The Request for Disposition of Remains is included with this letter.

This form was signed and notarized at Colville, Washington ( 50 miles north of Deer Park )
on 27 October 1948 with the request that Sgt Olson be buried at Fort Rosecrans, San Diego.
