Introduction Part 2

Return to Sgt Richmond's Main Page

There is minimal information about Sgt Richmond either online or in his IDPF.

Considerable assistance has been provided by
Gary Rider and Laurie Winters, librarians in Marshall County, West Virgininia.

In 1920 his parents were living in Glen Easton, West Virginia, a rural area about three miles west of Cameron.

Between 1930 and 1950, the population of Marshall County fluctuated between 37,000 and 40,000.
The Cameron District was between 2200 and 1800.

He attended Cameron High School, Cameron, West Virginia, graduating 28 April 1939 .

His registration card is dated July 1941 and his occupation is listed as farm laborer.

Based on information in the Official Documents section, he was called to active duty 7 April 1942.

Dental records from his IDPF indicate that he was at Foster Field, Victoria, Texas,
from 20 May 1942 through 18 February 1943.

During this time his rank rose to Sergeant.

In January 1943 he married Alberta Christina Wade.
She lived in Proctor, West Virginia, which is close to A 7 in the below map.

By late 1944 he was with the Lt Edward Gletty Law crew at Pyote Army Air Field, Texas.
Some details of the Law Crew are at the below link to the POW Honor Roll home page :

Case History 111

concerns the POWs who died at the Tokyo Military Prison the night of 25-26 May 1945.
Very little of this is presented within these pages.

The below map is the Panhandle section of West Virginia with an arrow pointing to Cameron.

Following the map is the Register of Births.

Gary Rider has written a series of books about Veterans in Marshall County, West Virginia.

He has kindly granted permission for me to use this page about Alberta and Raymond Richmond.

Sgt Richmond's Registration Card is followed by his Marriage License and Certificate dated 8 January 1943.
