The first two documents create a time line for Lt Franz's journey
home.
2nd Lt William Joseph Franz, Jr's , journey home began
with his remains being transferred from Yokohama Cemetery #1
to the AGRS Port Facility in Yokohama on 28 August 1948.
On 11 January 1949 his remains were placed on board
US Army Transport General C G Morton.
His remains arrived in Hawaii 5 February 1949 and
were transferred to the Hawaiian Distribution Center around 10 February.
Interment in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific
took place on 3 March 1949.
On 9 May 1949 a letter and form were sent to Mr Franz
requesting that he write what he wanted on his son's grave marker.
This form was signed on 17 May 1949 .
On 20 May 1949 a letter was sent to Mr Franz informing him
that his son's remains have been permanently interred in the cemetery.
