The above map shows the two locations on Long Island where Sgt Goffery lived
and the Sperry Gyroscope Corporation where he worked after high school.

His parents, Joseph J Goffery ( 1883 - 1944 ) and Margaret McSheffrey Goffery ( 1886 - 1969 ),
had 10 children.
Five were girls and five were boys and Sgt Goffery was the youngest.

The family lived in the area of
Ridgewood, Queens, Long Island, for around 20 years,
( 1920 and 1940 US Census. )

Following his graduation from Grover Cleveland High School in 1940,
he worked at the Sperry Gyroscope Corporation in the area of Lake Success.

His brother Frank lived in Hollis and it may have been for this reason
that Sgt Goffery moved there to be closer to his work.

Below are two pages from the Grover Cleveland High School Yearbook for the Class of 1940.
Sgt Goffery's photo is at the bottom left corner of the second page.
