and the Emergency Rescue Report.

MACR 14337 contains 27 pages.
The first four are part the regular MACR report followed by
the Emergency Rescue Report.

Their B-29 was shot down 29 April 1945 on a mission to Miyakonojo Airfield, Kyushu.

The aircraft was attacked by fighters and the number 3 and 4 engines were damaged.
All crew members were seen to bail out of the aircraft 20-30 miles off the coast of Kyushu.

Six were rescued by the Gato SS-212, four were never seen again,
and Sgt Brown drifted, perhaps in a raft, until he reached Oshima Island.

In the MACR, the names and status of each crew member are stated.
Two locations are mentioned for the bail out :

MACR :
30 52 N – 131 31 E

Search and rescue operations began immediately.

Emergency Rescue Report :
31 00 N – 131 27 E

The below map is from the Perry Castenada Collection at the University of Texas.

Oshima Island and Meitsu are circled with white ovals.
Each of these locations is mentioned in SSgt Brown's Report of Capture.

At the lower right corner of the map are the coordinates 31 30 N - 131 30 10 E.
The bailout took place to the South of this spot.
