SSgt Robert L Pellicot was one of 14 men executed at the Jonan Rifle
Range within Osaka Castle.
Arrows in the map of Osaka Castle and the surrounding area point
to the locations of
The Castle and Jonan Rifle Range.
Below the map is a sketch of where remains were reovered at the Rifle
Range.
SSgt Pellicot's identification was made within a few days of his
recovery and
was based on laundry marks found on his clothing.
Apparently this was considered normal procedure in the early days.
At some point Identification in the Field was eliminated in favor
of a more detailed procedure.
One page from William Steere's book
Final Disposition of World War II Dead
provides a glimpse into this situation.
A page from Case History 201 is next and followed by the
Team 3 and 4 Report of Recovery.
There is no date in this Report but
based upon other documents this took place 29 and 30 March 1946.
There is a refernce to
The Apppendix to WD QMC Form 1042
