Below is Lt Redinger's Enlistment Record from the National Archives
On- Line Data Base.
He enlisted at Newark, New Jersey, on 10 October 1941.
Newspaper clippings in Pages 4 and 5 have the year as 1942.
This is followed by a list of his stations compiled from from dental
records in his IDPF and Individual Flight Record ( IFR ) from Roy
Wall.
By June 1942 he had been in the US Army Air Force for 8 months.
His early flight training began in April 1943.
There is no information covering the period from June 1942 up to this
point.
In late June 1943 he was commissioned a 2nd Lt.
One unusual part of his training was his attending the
Flight Engineer School at Smoky Hill AAF, Salina, Kansas.
Typically, this schooling was done at either Lowry AAF, Colorado,
or the Boeing School in Seattle, Washington.
For a few months he was assigned to the
868th Bomb Squadron, 58th Bomb Wing, at Smoky Hill AAF.
This changed in November 1943 when he was
transferred to Hendricks AAF, Sebring, Florida.
He was there until February 1944.
At this time he was transferred to the
497th Bomb Group at Clovis AAF, New Mexico.
In the middle of April 1944 the 497th BG moved to Pratt AAF, Kansas.
There is no documentation when Lt Redinger joined the Capt Hahn Crew.
Training would continue until September 1944 when
they transferred to Herington AAF, Kansas.
This was an intermediate step in their journey to Saipan.
Next would be a transfer to Mather AAF, Sacramento, the Aerial Port
of Embarkation.
They departed on 7 October 1944 and arrived at Saipan,
via Honolulu and Kwajalein , on 19 October 1944.
