Non-Recoverable Remains
Page 4

A few years ago a family member asked why I was using the
term Non-Recoverable instead of Unidentifiable.

This is a very fine distinction that I cannot answer.

----------------

There is a document from the Office of the Quartermaster General
that lists Cemetery Code numbers along with the name of each Cemetery.

Below is the first page titled
WWII Casualty Codes.

These codes are used in the below document
U.S. ROSTERS OF WWII DEAD
source : Ancestry.com

In this page Lt Redinger's name is highlighted with a blue arrow
and at the far right column is the number 6.

This Code Number corresponds to the word
Non-Recoverable
in the Disposition Codes.

----------------
Following this page is the final Board of Review dated 20 January 1950.

The basis for declaring these remains as Non-Recoverable is presented.
"...all records pertaining subject individuals be closed ..."

---------------

Sometime during 1950 the remains of all the Unknowns at
USAF Cemetery Yokohama #1 were transported to
Fort McKinley Military Cemetery, Manila.

Their remains were buried there.

In April 2022 the remains of THE 37 from the Tokyo Military Prison were
transported to
Joint Base Pearl Harbor - Hickam
for identificaiton.
