Recovery of Remains at three locations in the Osaka area began in April 1946.

One of these was at the Jonan Rifle ( Firing ) Range located inside Osaka Castle.
This location is shown in one of the below maps and in the aerial photograph .

Fourteen POWs were executed at the Rifle Range on 15 August 1945.

Their remains were designated as Unknowns X-1 through X-14.

This designation would change when the remains were transfered to
USAF ( United States Armed Forces ) Cemetery #1 Yokohama.

Sgt Wall was initially designated as Unknown X-5 at Osaka and then X-381 at Yokohama.
