A week after the Dalton Victory departed Yokohama for San Francisco,
Mr Wells received a Day Letter from
the Memphis General Depot stating that his son's remains
were enroute to the United States.
He was also asked to confirm the delivery instructions .
On 7 December 1948 Mr Wells received a letter
from the Depot informing him that they had not received a
reply to a telegram sent to him on 26 November.
This is followed by a telgram dated 7 December 1948
from Mr Wells to Captain Odenwalder.
On 31 December 1948 Mr Wells received a telegram
with details of his son's remains traveling by rail from Memphis to
Portageville.
The railroad 's name, FRISCO, is the St Louis-San Francisco Railroad.
SSgt Wells' remains were scheduled to arrive on 5 January 1949.
His remains were escorted by
MSgt Peter Menkiewcisz, United States Air Force.
