Lt Harrison Wittee's journey home began with a letter
to his wife Helen from the Quartermaster General in July 1948.

Mrs Helen Wittee remarried in February 1947.
Mrs Helen Ratliff informed the Army that she was no longer next of kin.

Lt Wittee's father, Robert B Witte , then became next of kin.

Letters and forms were sent to him requesting where he wanted his son's remains buried.
He chose the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.

In August 1948 Lt Wittee's remains were transferred from
Yokohama Cemetery #1 to the
American Graves Registration Service ( AGRS ) port facility at Yokohama.

His remains were placed on board the
US Army Transport General W F Hase on 21 February 1949,
arriving at Oahu on 14 March 1949.

Interment at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific took place on 18 March 1949.

Below is a letter from
the Chief of the Memorial Division to Mr Robert Wittee
informing him that a photo of his son's grave marker was enclosed.

Following this letter is the Interment Control Card for
Lt Wittee with date of death is stated as 1 June 1945.
