The below letter was written by Mrs Pearl Strong on 26 April 1949.
Although there is no addressee, most likely this was sent to
someone in the Office of the Quartermaster General.

In there she requests that her son be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

A reply to this letter was sent by telegram on 3 May 1949 to to Mr Herbert Strong.
He was informed that his wife was not next of kin and that he had the right of disposition.

Mr Strong replied by telegram on 5 May 1949 and
requested burial in Arlington National Cemetery.

While all of this was taking place, Sgt Strong's remains
had been placed abord the US Army Transport John H Harris.
The vessel departed Yokohama on 23 April 1949 and arrived in Hawaii on 7 May 1949.

His remains were transported to the Mausoleum at Fort Shafter to
await burial in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
