The Americal Divison was one of the
first Occupation Forces to arrive in Japan
in early September 1945.

It was assigned to the Prefectures of:

Yamanishi, Kanagawa, and Nagano .

One of its units was the 182nd Infantry Regiment.

In October 1945 there was a unit of the 182nd Infantry Regiment
at Hachioji, Tokyo Prefecture.

The
Report of Recovery
is the first document issued after a
grave site has been located.

This was done by Team No 2.,
3061st QuarterMaster Graves Registration Company
Team 2 Job 4

Sgt Hargrove's identification tags were with his remains.

The second document is the
Report of Disinterment for Identification
dated 5 December 1945.

The coordinates are in Paragraph 2.

The next document is titled:

Recovered Personnel Team

This Report of Teams #57 and #58
is dated 27 September 1945.

These were the teams sent out to locate the POW Camps and
air crews buried in isolated locations.

In the first paragraph, below the word ' Extract ' ,
is Team # 57.

In the area of Nishihara Village they had contact with a Lt from the
182nd Infantry Regiment, Americal Division ,
who rode on horseback
to the top of the mountain.

Also in this report is one sentence :

" Police in Hachioji knew the exact location of the crash
and they thought two men had parachuted "

This description fits with Sgt Weiser and Sgt Evans
parachuting into Ongata Village which is
located close to the western edge of Hachioji.

Appendix B
54th Troop Carrier Wing
15 November 1945

Report of Missing Personnel.

" The following information was received from Reverend Paul S Imamura.... "

Reverend Imamura spoke both English and Japanese.

He could have been an interpreter
in Hachoji and Ongata for a unit of 182nd Infantry Regiment .

He also knew about the crash near Nishihara Village and
possibly Sgt Weiser's landing in Ongata Village.

With this in mind, there is reason to believe that he pointed out
Sgt Weiser's burial location.

At an unknown date, Team 2 Job 5 of the
3061st Grave Registration Company would
recover Sgt Weiser's remains.

This narrative summarizes the work that Recovery Team 2 had done.

Sgt Weiser's name is circled in the last paragraph.

His recovery location at the
Public Cemetery in Tachikawa City and
the date 30 October 1945
do not match the information in his
Report of Interment dated 20 October 1945
issued at USAF Yokohama Cemetery #1.
