Tributes to 2nd Lt John Snyder Houghton can be found at the above web sites.
The 498th Bomb Group Virtual Cemetery was created by Scott Muselin.

The amount of information concerning Koishikawa Military Cemetery is extremely limited within these pages. More details can be found in the
Case History 051
section of the 73rd Bomb Wing POW Honor Roll.

Below are two pages of Lt Houghton's enlistment record from the National Archives.
His Individual Deceased Personnel File (IDPF) has a few of the locations where he was stationed while in the Continental United States. There are no hints as to where he was between
August 1942 and August 1943 .

August 1943 : New Haven
December 1943 : Seattle
January 1944 : Lowry AAF

27 March 1944 : Clovis AAF
19 April 1944 : Great Bend AAF

While with the 1st Lt Carl Smith crew, Lt Houghton flew 17 or 18 missions.
Two of the many pages from Missing Air Crew Report 13762, titled Individual Casualty Questionnaire, are below. One of the men provided general information while the other has dates and targets for the missions.

Each of the above reports state that Lt Houghton was severely burned.
The Mansell POW database states that he was executed.

Based upon Yokohama Trials T-310 and T-369 and the case of
Sgt William H Osborne, this remains a possibility.
However, there are no documents within
Lt Houghton's IDPF that explicitly state this.

At the bottom of this page is a Casualty and Death Report for the State of Ohio
with a partial list of men from Marion County.
Cause of Death is listed as
DOI : Died of Injuries

His name appears in Specification 5 of Trial T-369 in a list of nine men who were poisoned. However, seven of these men's names, including Lt Houghton, were removed from this list.

In the fourth page of the Resume of Official Records, Lt Houghton is the last name on the page and cause of death is stated as ' died of burns '.

For those interested in hard reading, I refer you to the two Trial Reviews that are in the
Yokohama Trial
section.
