The process of formally identifying Sgt Walter E Walk's remains
began 17 January 1949.

The recommendation for his identification by
the Board of Review on 20 January 1949 was approved
on 14 April 1949.

This was accepted by the Department of the Army on 22 April 1949.

During this process Sgt Walk's remains were disintered from
Yokohoma Cemetery on 18 January 1949.

They were then transported to the
American Graves Registration Service ( AGRS )
Port Facility at Yokohama.

It was not until October 1949 that
his remains began the journey home.

Below is a photo of US Army Transport ( USAT ) General Edwin D Patrictk
that transported
Sgt Walk's remains from Yokohama to Oakland, California.

Beneath the photo is a map showing the location where Sgt Walk was buried
at St John's Cemetery ( Rock Creek ) near Grafton, Iowa.
