On 24 May 1950 Mrs Warde wrote a letter to Col Williamson,
Arlington National Cemetery .
She had visited her son's grave in February and was surprised to see
that his unit was the 991st.
The Office was closed and so she left a note.
Her second visit to Lt Warde's grave site
was on May 13th and there still were no changes.

Next is a handwritten card dated 1 June 1950
from an unknown source:
" The 881st was a part of the 500th Bomb Group for a short period
of time "

In the 6 June 1950 letter to Mrs Warde from
Col A G Amlong, Memorial Division :
" No record of his having served with the 881st "

Mrs Warde began to educate Col Amlong with a
two page letter on 8 June 1950.
At the top :
..." all your records continue to be inaccurate. For your enlightenment
...."
She proceeded to provide the Col with a brief history of the 500th
Bomb Group.
"So you see, there were No 900s in the 500th Bomb Group "

On 15 June 1950 a letter of apology
was sent to Mrs Warde from Col Amlong.
" The Adjutant General's Office verified that your son's military
service
was with the 991st Bomb Squadron.
However, a further investigation ....."
